Synonyms:

Aspidistra connata is currently a synonym of Aspidistra subrotata Y.Wan & C.C.Huang

Holotype:

 

From a plant in cultivation at the Botanical Garden Munich (accession-nr. 96/3119), collected by N. Arnautov (Arnautov 85–722) in Vietnam, Prov. Gialai-Kontum. Tillich 4470 (M), including flowers in the liquid collection at (M).

Paratypes: Bogner s.n. (M!), Tillich 4969 (LE!); Vietnam, Prov. Gia Lai, “north of An Khe”, in cultivation in the Botanical Garden Munich (accession-nr. 97/2358) Bogner 2495 (M!), Tillich 4591 (M!); Living plants (Arnautov 85–722) are in cultivation in the Botanical Garden of the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg.

Vietnam. Gia Lai, Ninh Thuan province; China: Guangxi.

Flowers in November–December in cultivation.

Description

Rhizome epigeous, ∅ 5–7 mm, cataphylls green to pale brown, their length successively increasing from 1 cm to about 10 cm; Petiole 20–30 cm; Lamina lanceolate, 30 cm long and 5–6 cm wide, uniformly green or sometimes with white spots, base narrow cuneate, midvein tender, secondary veins very fine, upper surface smooth; Flowers subsessile, length and ∅ 20– 30 mm, tube widely cupulate, ∅ 10 mm and 4–5 mm high, lobes 8 (–10), lineate, connate at their tips and forming a cage around the pistil, outsides pale violet with dark purple spots, insides purple; Stamens 8, near the base of tube, filaments 0.5 mm, anthers ovoid, 2.5 mm long; Pistil mushroom-shaped, ovar indistinct, style 2–4 mm long, stigma dome-shaped, ∅ 12–17 mm, surface smooth, marmorate with dark and pale purple.
