Name:

Aspidistra foliosa Tillich – Feddes Repert. 116(5-6): 319. (2005).

Holotype:

 

From a plant in cultivation at the Botanical Garden Munich (accession–nr. 97/2360), collected by J. Bogner, March 1997 (Bogner 2502) in Vietnam, Prov. Thua Thien, Bach Ma. Tillich 4471 (M), including flowers in the liquid collection at (M).

Specimens:

 

Paratype: Bogner 2502 (M); J. Bogner has collected two more plants in the Bach Ma National Park region now in cultivation at the Botanical Garden Munich. These plants are source of the specimen Bogner 2803, two sheets (M), and Tillich 4962 (M).

Distribution:

Vietnam. Thua Thien province.

Phenology:

Flowers in November–December in cultivation.

Rhizome epigeous, short, ∅ 5–7 mm, cataphylls pale red-brown, distally greenish, up to 13 cm long, soon drying; Petiole 8–10 cm; Lamina narrow lanceolate 30–40 × 2–2.5 cm, decurrent, stiff upright, uniformly fair green, midrib protruding abaxially; Flowers numerous, small, peduncle 0.5–1 cm long, with a few small, pale cataphylls, perigone infundibuliform, ∅ 10 (–12) mm, 7–8 mm long, pale outsides, purple insides, lobes 6, purple, ovoid, 4 mm long and wide, smooth, distintly in two circles; Stamens 6, at middle of tube, subsessile, anthers ovoid, 2 mm long; Pistil 5 mm long, ovar indistinct, style 3 mm long, stigma white, ∅ 7 mm.
