Description from protologue:
| Herbs perennial, evergreen, rhizomatous. Rhizome hypogeous, plagiotropic, creeping, robust, subterete, (7)8–12(14) mm in diameter, (4)5–6(8) cm long, covered with partially disintegrated dark brown to almost black scales, with few dense nodes; apical portion of rhizome bears (1)2–4(5) leaves, each with 3–4(5) cataphylls. Cataphylls herbaceous, convolute, tubular, enveloping petiole base, (1.0)1.5–7.0(10.0) cm long, pale yellowish green, speckled or flushed with purple brown, becoming black-brown when dry. Leaves petiolate, 0.5–1.5(2.0) cm apart; petiole erect, straight, (45)50–55(60) cm long, (1.8)2.0(2.2) mm in diameter, adaxially sulcate, distinctly swollen at the base; leaf blade narrowly elliptic, (30)35–38(40) cm long, (7)10–11(12) cm wide, gradually narrowing at base and apex, uniformly grassy green on both surfaces, somewhat glossy above, irregularly wavy or almost straight along margin. Peduncle ascending from apical part of rhizome, white, finely speckled with purple, (1.5)2.0– 3.0(3.5) cm long, with 4–5(6) imbricate bracts; bracts cymbiform, enveloping peduncle, narrowly ovate to ovate, acute, (6)7–14(15) mm long, (3.5)4.0–5.0(6.0) mm wide (being flattened), distal larger than proximal, white, finely speckled with purple, becoming almost black with age. Flowers 1–3 per shoot, widely opening, with arcuate outcurved lobes; perianth somewhat fleshy, (9)10–12(14) mm long, (2.2)2.4– 2.6(2.8) cm in diameter, 6-lobed apically; tube obconoid (8)9–10(11) mm long, pale yellowish on both surfaces, distal opening (6.2)6.5–7.0(7.2) mm in diameter; lobes subequal in shape, narrowly triangular, (8)9–10(11) mm long, (2.8)3.0(3.2) mm wide at base, gradually tapering into acute apex, on both surfaces almost flat, smooth, glossy, uniformly purple. Stamens 6, filamentose, inserted at upper margin of perianth tube, with anther apex and stigma positioned at the same level (lying in the same plane); filaments in sagittalcross section narrowly elliptic, 0.4–0.6 mm tall, 2.0–2.3 mm wide in sagittal direction, anthers narrowly oblong, 4.4–4.6 mm long, 1.0–1.2 mm wide, pale yellow, distally reaching stigma. Pistil elongate obconical, (12.5)13.0–14.0(14.5) mm long, somewhat overtopping the tube, pale yellow, finely speckled with purple; ovary inconspicuous; style with nearly cylindrical lower third, distally moderately (gradually) widened to stigma diameter, longitudinally ribbed; stigma circular or triangular in outline, (3.0)3.5(4.0) mm in diameter, brown, almost flat, finely papillose, obscurely 3-lobed; lobes irregularly triangular separated with narrow radial yellowish fissures.
