Description from protologue:
| Perennial terrestrial herb, with simple or few-branching ascending to suberect, semi-woody stem (4)5–12(14) cm tall bearing 3–9(11) leaves and a few loose fibrous or papyraceous remains of cataphylls. Stem greenish, 2.5–3.5 mm in diameter, with many internodes, each (3.5)4.0–6.0(7.0) mm long. With age, the old stem lay down and becomes plagiotropic and rhizome-like, at apex giving rise to a young erect stem. Roots few, dull yellowish-gray, rigid, rather straight, spaced in basal part of stem. Cataphylls during anthesis herbaceous, pale greenish, convolute, straight, upright, enveloping leaf petiole, oblong (1.6)2.0–3.5(4.0) cm long, (0.6)0.7–1.2(1.4) cm wide (when flattened out), apiculate, quickly weathered. Leaves petiolate, (9)10–16(18) cm long; petiole green, stiff, rigid, erect, almost straight, (3.0)3.5–7.0(8.0) cm long, 2.0–2.5 mm in diameter, adaxially grooved; leaf blade arching to horizontally spreading, leathery, more or less flat, narrowly ovate to ovate, tapering to an acute or shortly acuminate apex, almost round or cordate at base, (4.0)5.0–8.0(10.0) cm long, (2.5)3.0–4.0(4.5) cm wide, broadly undulate along margin, dark velvety green, when young with many sparse dull yellowish spots (disappearing with age), with 3–5(7) longitudinal sunken veins, strongly protruding from lower surface. Flowers 1–2, arising laterally from the stem apex, pedunculate, widely opening, (1.2)1.4–1.6(1.7) cm in diameter, later with perigone lobes strongly recurved. Peduncle horizontal, arching and slightly pendulous, (2.0)2.5–3.0(3.5) cm long, 2.0–2.5 mm in diameter, light greenish, with (4)5(6) distant or hardly overlapping sterile bracts; sterile bracts scarious, white, narrowly ovate to ovate, acute, with broad base, enveloping peduncle, (4.0)5.0–8.0(9.0) mm long, (4.0)5.0–6.0(6.5) mm wide (being flattened). Perigone tube glossy, white, with about 18 longitudinal, somewhat sunken veins outside, dark violet to almost black inside, cupulate, (1.1)1.2–1.4(1.5) cm long, (1.2)1.4–1.5(1.6) cm in diameter, with 6 free lobes; lobes fleshy, subequal, strongly recurved, with slightly recurved margin, outside white to yellowish white, smooth and glossy, adaxially yellowish with inconspicuous longitudinal grooves or somewhat irregularly longitudinally wrinkled, triangular broadly ovate when flattened, (4.5)5.0(5.5) mm long, (5.5)6.0(6.5) mm wide, obtuse or roundish at apex. Stamens 6; anthers filamentose, placed little below the middle of the perigone tube; filaments white, fleshy, cylindrical, (0.8)1.0–1.2(1.4) mm long, 0.7–0.9 mm in diameter, directed obliquely upward, placing the anthers closely below the stigma plate; anthers bean shaped, (1.8)2.0–2.2(2.4) mm long and wide, well distant from each other; pollen sacs introrse or slightly down-faced; pollen bright yellow. Pistil pure white, light greenish near the base; style fleshy, cylindrical (3.8)4.0–4.5(5.0) mm long, 1.6–1.7 mm in diameter, slightly broadening near the base; stigma discoid, flat, fleshy, 2.5 mm thick, above with distinct upcurved cushion along the margin, almost entire, hexagonal, (6.5)7.0–8.0(9.0) mm in diameter, smooth to finely papillose. Ovary inconspicuous, very indistinct, light greenish. Fruits unknown. |
