Name:

Aspidistra petiolata Tillich – Feddes Repert. 116(5-6): 321. (2005).

Holotype:

 

From a plant in cultivation at the Botanical Garden Munich (accession-nr. 97/2382), collected by J. Bogner (Bogner 2492), March 1997, in Vietnam, Prov. Thua Thien, Bach Ma. Tillich 4475 (M), including flowers in the liquid collection at (M).

Specimens:

Paratype: Bogner 2492 (M); The plant in cultivation at the Botanical Garden Munich.

Distribution:

Vietnam: Thua Thien province.

Phenology:

Flowers in November and March in cultivation.

Rhizome epigeous, ∅ 10–12 mm, cataphylls lanceolate, 20–30 × 5–8 cm, midvein at lower surface somewhat prominent, at both sides of midrib 3–4 secondary veins, between them only 3–5 very fine nerves; Petiole up to 60 cm long; Lamina lanceolate 25 × 5–8 cm; Flowers solitary or in groups of 2–3, subsessile, perigone widely funnel-shaped, ∅ ca. 25 mm, purple, lobes 6, ovoid, tips rounded, 7 mm long, 9 mm wide, with four low, rounded keels; Stamens 6, at lower third of tube, filaments 1 mm, anthers lineate, 2 mm long; Pistil obconical, ovar inconspicuous, style short, continuously widened to stigma level, stigma white, surface flat, three-armed, each arm with distal incisions.
